A review of the Comark temperature data logger when compared to Eupry.

Last month we compared the Eupry temperature monitoring system with OMEGA. This month, we will take a closer look at how the system compares with that of Comark.

The Comark temperature data logger is well known within the field of life sciences and biomedical research. Their data loggers are widely used in the NHS and count large corporations, such as GSK, as their customers. Comark produce a wide range of different data loggers to match the individual’s requirements. For this blog, we will just be focusing on their RF 300 range of data loggers to see how it compares to Eupry.

Comparing the Comark RF 300 range to Eupry

First of all, it is important to note that there are a number of different models to choose from within the RF 300 range. The RF311-T data logger has an operating range of -20°C to +60°C. This makes it ideal for measuring the ambient temperature of a room. Equally, it can be used to measure the temperature of a refrigerator. The Eupry equivalent has an operating range between -50°C and +50°C. This means it can be used, not only to record room and fridge temperature, but also the temperatures of freezers. The data logger from Eupry will withstand much colder temperatures than the Comark RF311-T logger.

If users want to measure temperatures below -20°C using a Comark data logger, then they should choose the RF 312-TP. This model uses a temperature probe to record measurements and thus allows the user device to record much colder/warmer temperatures. The RF 312-TP will record temperatures between -40°C and +125°C. Eupry’s temperature probe -196°C to +150°C. This means that the probe can easily be used in liquid nitrogen dewars as well as low temperature ovens.

If a user wishes to measure colder or warmer temperatures using a Comark temperature data logger, they should opt for the RF 314-TC which operates between -270°C and +1372°C. This is, quite frankly, a massive temperature range and allows the user to measure extremely hot/cold conditions. A drawback of the Eupry system, over that of the Comark one, is that it is not capable of measuring such extreme conditions.  That being said, there are very limited applications when operating at such high/low temperatures.

How the Comark RF 300 system works

Both the Comark RF 300 and Eupry data loggers send data wirelessly via a WiFi connection to the cloud. Both systems also alert you via SMS text message and email when the temperature exceeds pre-define thresholds set by the user. Likewise, both systems allow users can view data via a smartphone, tablet and/or PC.

However, one feature that is available on the Eupry system, which the RF 300 data loggers do not have, is the ability for the user to be alerted by phone call. This is particularly helpful when the user cannot check their emails regularly. It is also useful for areas where there is poor mobile signal, as the telephone alerts can be sent to a landline.

Instead of a phone alert, the Comark system uses the RF 324. This is a little device that will emit an audible and visual alarm when an alert is triggered. This is an optional extra which users can add to their system and costs around £140 + VAT.

Price of the Comark temperature data logger

Prices for the Comark RF 300 data loggers range from around £80 to £250 depending on which data logger you choose. These prices do not include VAT. The Eupry system is slightly more expensive with prices starting at around £135 + VAT. However, discount is available for Eupry loggers where the user requires 20 devices or more.

Comark temperature data logger conclusion

Both the Comark and Eupry data loggers essentially do the same thing. They both allow users to measure a range of temperatures and both are competitively priced. Comark does have more choice when it comes to deciding which logger to opt for. Indeed, the RF 300 can monitor a wider range of temperatures too. Nevertheless, both systems will meet the needs of most users and both are easy to use.
