Spotlight On: Hoshizaki ice makers

Share Post:

Earlier this month, we announced that we had become an official distributor of Hoshizaki ice makers. But who exactly are Hoshizaki and what makes them such a good company to work with? Let’s find out.

Overview of Hoshizaki

Established in Japan in 1947, Hoshizaki is now the largest ice maker in the world, with over 13,000 employees. Hoshizaki has a global presence with subsidiaries across the Americas, Europe and of course Asia itself.

Hoshizaki ice makers can be used in a number of different settings, from clinical to catering/hospitality environments. Recently the company merged with Danish refrigerator and freezer manufacturer, Gram to become a world leader in refrigeration products. The company is also engaged in cleaning equipment, dishwashers, coffee machines and a variety of cooking equipment.

Speciality ice

An ice cube is not simply an ice cube in the world of Hoshizaki! Their ice makers are capable of producing an array of different types of ice from cubes, nuggets, flakes to even stars, hearts and perfectly formed balls. Flakes are most commonly used in the medical field and are often used to keep well plates or organs cool whilst another procedure is being carried out.

Ice produced by Hoshizaki ice makers is of the highest quality. When producing the ice, it is completely clear and contains no clouds at all. Although this is not so critical in a clinical setting, it is quite important when these devices are being used in a catering or hospitality environment.

Environmentally friendly

Hoshizaki strive to be as ‘green’ as possible and the company is committed to the environment at a global level. Hoshizaki’s motto is that good products should be also be good for the environment. Hoshizaki have their own, very comprehensive environmental plan and targets. To summarise, Hoshizaki’s environmental aims are as follows:

  • To reduce the energy consumption of their products
  • To minimise waste generation of the company as a whole
  • To decrease the environmental impact of transportation of their goods
  • To avoid the use of chemical substances where possible
  • Promotion of the R&D into environmentally friendly products

Hoshizaki take their impact on the environment very seriously, which is one of the main reasons Henderson Biomedical decided to work with them. Their ethos fits in well with our own Environmental Policy.

Made in the UK

Although Hoshizaki is a Japanese company, their ice makers are actually made right here in the UK. This is not only a good thing for the UK economy, but it also means that delivery times are dramatically reduced as the product doesn’t need to be imported from overseas. Delivery times are usually 2-3 days from receipt of purchase order.

Furthermore, a locally made product means a much lower carbon footprint. Henderson Biomedical always try to work with local partners here in the UK to minimise the carbon footprint of the products we supply (see ‘Supply Chain’ section of our Environmental Policy).

Peace of mind

All Hoshizaki ice makers come with a 2-year parts and labour warranty. Furthermore, repairs and maintenance can be carried out anywhere in Great Britain with Henderson Biomedical. Our engineers have been factory trained by the manufacturer, so you can be sure that you are getting a quality service.

For an additional fee, you can have your ice maker delivered to the actual position where it will be used and plumbed in.

Summary

Hoshizaki is an environmentally conscious company producing high quality, UK made products. This was the reason why Henderson Biomedical decided to partner with such a company. The company can deliver products quickly and after sales service and repair can be supported by our team of experience engineers.
