Why is refrigeration needed on a centrifuge?

As a centrifuge rotor spins, it creates heat. This heat can, in turn, damage the quality of the sample. Therefore, some centrifuges are fitted with refrigeration which encase the rotor bowl. Although you cannot see these coils, they are pumping refrigerant gas around the bowl keeping the inside cool.
